Patrick Kiprop and Rebecca Mwangi win the BOLDERBoulder as 47,645 finish in Folsom Field

With three-time champion Conner Mantz not racing, two Kenyans took the Memorial Day 10K pro races in 28:35 and 32:23 at a mile above sea level.

The BOLDERBoulder is run on Memorial Day, which this year was Monday 25 May, through the streets of Boulder, Colorado, and into the University of Colorado's Folsom Field, where the citizens' race finishes before the pros go off and the stadium holds its Memorial Day tribute at noon. This year 47,645 people finished, professionals and wheelchair athletes included.

The pro races are the International Team Challenge, run since 1998 with three-runner national teams scored like cross country and more than $100,000 in prize money, at least $10,000 of it to each individual winner. Conner Mantz, who had won three years running and beat Daniel Simiu Ebenyo in the last 50 metres in 2025, did not race. Patrick Kiprop of Kenya, who lives in Boulder and trains with the On Athletics Club and who won the Peachtree Road Race last year, took the men's title in 28:35. Rebecca Mwangi, who ran for Kenya at the World Cross Country Championships in January, won the women's race in 32:23; the two-time champion Grace Nawowuna, whose 31:51 last year is the course record, did not return.

The fields were deep. The United States ran three men's teams, including Clayton Young, Jared Ward and Casey Clinger on Team USA Red, and Japan sent its first men's team since 2019 with Suguru Osako and Kengo Suzuki. The women's field had Kenya, Ethiopia, Brazil, Mexico and Morocco alongside two American teams. The citizens' race was won by Nickolas Scudder of Boulder in 29:58.

Ten kilometres at 5,400 feet with 47,000 people and a stadium at the end. Nothing else on the American calendar looks like it.
