It is a Swiss record, the fastest time in the world this year and the fastest 800 m ever run in a Diamond League meeting. Keely Hodgkinson was second in 1:54.33, a British record, and Roisin Willis third in 1:57.56. Anaïs Bourgoin, Prudence Sekgodiso and Anna Wielgosz were all inside 1:58.
The men's race went to Cooper Lutkenhaus, the 17-year-old from Texas, in 1:42.70. Marco Arop was second in 1:43.11 and Algeria's Slimane Moula third in 1:43.41. Ben Pattison and Peter Bol both ran 1:43.70, Gabriel Tual 1:43.72, and Bryce Hoppel was eighth in 1:44.66.
Yared Nuguse won the 1500 m in 3:30.11 from Cameron Myers, 3:30.32, and Timothy Cheruiyot, 3:30.67, with Hobbs Kessler sixth in 3:31.76. Soufiane El Bakkali took the steeplechase in 8:10.40 ahead of Edmund Serem and Abraham Kibiwot. Marwa Bouzayani of Tunisia won the women's steeplechase in a meeting record 8:59.28, 12 seconds clear of Elise Thorner. Birke Haylom won the women's 1500 m in 4:00.68.
The home crowd's own story went the other way: Kurtis Marschall cleared 5.90 m in the pole vault and Armand Duplantis, with 5.80 m, lost in Stockholm.
Two women under 1:54.40 in the same race, in June, and the teenager who beat Arop was the second-biggest story of the night.
