Patrick Kiprop repeats and Tsigie Gebreselama wins by a second at Peachtree

Kiprop ran 27:37 for his second straight Peachtree 10K title; Gebreselama beat Melknat Wudu 31:02 to 31:03 in front of more than 50,000 runners.

Patrick Kiprop of Kenya won the Peachtree Road Race on the Fourth of July for the second year running, covering the 10 km down Peachtree Road in 27:37. It was the first Peachtree under its new title sponsor, Northside Hospital.

The women's race was closer than anything else on the day. Tsigie Gebreselama of Ethiopia won in 31:02, with Melknat Wudu one second behind in 31:03.

In the wheelchair divisions, Daniel Romanchuk won in 19 minutes flat, his ninth straight Peachtree title, with Aaron Pike nearly a minute back. Tatyana McFadden won the women's race in 23:02, her eighth Peachtree win and her first since 2021.

Atlanta was hot and humid, and the race ran under its red flag for heat. More than 50,000 people ran it anyway; the Atlanta Track Club put the field at about 56,000.

Peachtree is the biggest 10K in the world and the one road race most Americans could name. It is also, every year, the hottest morning most of them will run all summer.
