Femke Broeders-Bol was second in 1:55.41, a Dutch record, and Saida Tsehaye of Ethiopia third in 1:56.92. The old record was Keely Hodgkinson's 1:55.69 from last year.
The men's 800 m went to Emmanuel Wanyonyi in 1:42.19 from Djamel Sedjati, 1:42.31, and Brandon Miller, 1:42.55, with Marco Arop fourth. The 5000 m was the deepest race of the night: Birhanu Balew of Bahrain won in 12:57.55, Parker Wolfe ran a personal best 12:58.20 for second, Nico Young 12:58.33 for third and Graham Blanks 12:59.16 for fourth. Rai Benjamin opened his 400 m hurdles season with 46.67 in a non-Diamond League race, and Masai Russell ran a meeting record 12.27 in the 100 m hurdles. Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.21 m, also a meeting record, then went after the world record and missed.
Four men under 12:59 and the winner was the one nobody was talking about. Depth is the story of this season's 5000 m.
