Picture: GravalLeonard Langat of Kenya won the Toronto Waterfront Marathon for the second year running on Sunday, October 18, in 2:06:51. That is the fastest winning time in Toronto since 2019. Fanny Kiprotich made it a Kenyan one-two in 2:07:21.
Leah Jeruto, also of Kenya, won the women's race in 2:21:19. It took more than three minutes off the 2:24:31 she ran at the Cape Town Marathon in May. Nigsti Haftu of Ethiopia was 15 seconds behind in 2:21:34, and her countrywoman Ayinadis Teshome was third in 2:22:51.
Toronto doubled as the Canadian marathon championships. Andrew Davies ran 2:08:48 in his marathon debut, unsponsored, and took the men's title. Dayna Pidhoresky of Windsor, Ontario, was eighth in the women's race and won her second national title, her first since 2019.
Canadians also swept the half marathon: Dylan Alick won the men's race in 1:03:49 and Teagan Robertson the women's in 1:13:58.
A 2:08 debut is the headline for Canada. That is a time that gets a runner into the conversation for Los Angeles.
